Here I explore the idea of compressing second-hand clothing between plywood blocks, held in place by bar clamps.

I love to experiment! This one began with a ground

I love to experiment! This one began with a ground of blue and white paint. I then did a crayon rubbing of garment sleeves. Finally, I went in with the color of cement and filled the space between the sleeves. Like “pointing” a stone wall. I had plans to add another layer of color, but there’s something really satisfying about it the way it is now. We’ll see.

This painting was made by my grandmother, Evelyn Melander. It’s called ‘The Lake of Fire’ and I believe she painted it in the late 60s.

She was an amazing character. Close friends called her ‘Zev’ after a racehorse that was famous for bucking in the starting gate.

Grama, if you’re out there, please send me some of that energy, I could really use it now.

Not to get into the political fray, but the toddler shirt is in great shape, and the blue shirts, I have three men’s large and three men’s extra large. Get them while they’re hot. 🔥 no time for USPS, but I can drop them off in Callicoon, New York or Monticello, New York on Monday.
