Lamination, 2008

Size:
7’ x 6’ x 1″ (H x W x D)

Materials:
Felt, thread & buttons

Description:
This drawing was created in several steps. First I de-constructed 7 individual garments which together comprised an outfit. I then laid them flat, photographed them, imported them into my computer and traced the outlines. After some tweaking I printed the drawing on a large roll printer and used the shapes as a pattern. More tweaking and the removal of all the right arms. Then more fitting work and after several iterations a final garment was cut and button holes were added.

This arrangement references the manufacturing of plywood in which thin sheets of wood are peeled from trees, layered and glued together.
