I’m excited to be in a fun pop-up this weekend at The DVAA, in Narrosburg, NY. This unique show brings together fine artists and florists for collaborative projects. My grandfather was a flower grower, my mom and brother had an exotic plant business and I worked in flower shops as a young man. So when approached about the project, I was immediately inspired. I’ll be collaborating with the lovely and talented Kathy Lawless. Please stop by, the piece is wild.

Happy Independence Day, 250 years of radical imperfection. A complete disaster, and hands-down, the best option we have.  This AM, I was in Jeffersonville, NY. A quintessential, small American town. And to my surprise, I felt proud and optimistic. My go-to studio sweatshirt is hanging on by a thread.
 Last week, when the washing machine repairman saw me wearing it, he pointed at the paint spatters and the frayed collar and said, “That’s no longer a sweatshirt, that’s a friend.”

Honestly, he got it.

One of the core ideas in my work is that clothing carries a trace of the person who wore it. We shape it, soften it, stretch it, repair it, live in it. In a sense, we animate it. Some people feel that deeply. Others wear something a handful of times and then toss it like an old rag.

My work reconnect us, even briefly, to the daily, often unconscious ritual of getting dressed.
