Clothing Performance: Wearing Others

This is based on a dream I had where I was standing in an earthen pit, a bit deeper than I am tall..

A video tour of a hotel closet, that becomes a poem.

Clothing Performance: Nomad (video), 2007

In this video, I take the viewer on a tour of a hotel closet, reading the tags on the garments as I pack to leave. These words spell out a poem.

Happy Independence Day, 250 years of radical imper Happy Independence Day, 250 years of radical imperfection. A complete disaster, and hands-down, the best option we have.
This AM, I was in Jeffersonville, NY. A quintessential, small American town. And to my surprise, I felt proud and optimistic. I love my community, all differences aside.

At the local Pecks market, I was happy to find an American flag (made in America).

Love to you all!

My go-to studio sweatshirt is hanging on by a thre My go-to studio sweatshirt is hanging on by a thread.

Last week, when the washing machine repairman saw me wearing it, he pointed at the paint spatters and the frayed collar and said, “That’s no longer a sweatshirt, that’s a friend.”

Honestly, he got it.

One of the core ideas in my work is that clothing carries a trace of the person who wore it. We shape it, soften it, stretch it, repair it, live in it. In a sense, we animate it. Some people feel that deeply. Others wear something a handful of times and then toss it like an old rag.

My work reconnect us, even briefly, to the daily, often unconscious ritual of getting dressed.
