This piece is a departure from the work I have been doing the past several years. I first started working with black when I created “The Witness” in 2021, but it has found it’s way into my mixed media pieces as well. In working with sleeves from second-hand clothing I am able to explore themes of connection, labor, and conflict without relying on the figure or slipping into anthropomorphism. In this piece, I’m interested in the traces we leave behind—and the quiet imprint of use.
