Richard was a tireless innovator. Only a handful of his works on Styrofoam remain. He created these works by floating oil-based paint on water, in a big flat tub. Once he had something he liked, he’d lay a piece of Styrofoam on top and transfer the paint onto the surface. Sometimes, depending on the ratio of the paint to the solvent, the paint would ‘eat into’ the surface of the foam. He sometimes referred to his work on foam as “Industrial Art”
